America’s Next Dumb Move

image On CNN through the last half hour, I watched the shameful coverage of the dispute in Iran. During that half hour, Wolf Blitzer had two guests: A professor who is related to Oil companies, and the son of the former Shah of Iran. Two people who could be benefiting greatly from any dissent from the Iranian people towards the Ayatollahs. While the interview, Mr. Blitzer kept asking about whether this is the next Iranian 'revolution', and while the term has been used on the Internet, we've learned in the half hour before Mr. Blitzer's show that the Internet isn't credible enough to make it to television.

The mere thought that the Iranian people could welcome any intervene for or against the results of the election, is a very stupid thought. The Obama administration has shown remarkable restraint towards commenting on the ongoing events. On the other hand, people - on the right in America - are divided between two camps, welcoming the results because it's easier to gather support against Ahmedinajad, Or [the other camp] calling for intervene from the administration in the name of preserving freedom and democracy. The CNN's two interviews suggest - in a very subtle way - that there is an always-depressed people in Iran that is calling for its freedom from the Ayatollahs. The Ayatoallahs who stood up against the Shah (Google the Shah to find the true definition of oppression), who gave the people 6 presidents in the last 30 years, and who - just last week - oversaw people rallying in the streets cheering freely for their candidates and an American-style TV debate with no punches spared.

If the US and the US media don’t understand that democracy is a process developing over decades, not some kind of micro-waveable meal that is ready in seconds. If the US doesn't learn from its own history that witnessed a Civil war (over a very simple moral reality that is in the heart of the US constitution) and major protests during the civil rights movement. If the US doesn't understand that the Iranian people will turn against any interference from outside. Then, intervening in the running dispute in Iran will be America's next dumb move.
